Most people are good

In these uncertain times, you will find the media trying their best to profit off your outrage and distress through clicks and ratings. They will work hard to ensure that everything you read, and watch is done so on their paper and through their lens. Those that have been carefully prepared to steer you in the direction they want you to move, on each individual topic.

Whilst it is important to remain informed on the current events going on in our society, sometimes reading these troubling stories repeatedly, can establish an extremely negative outlook on the world as we know it. One that simply does not represent the current daily interactions you find yourself having with people inside of your community.

Creating positive change on social issues is a wonderful thing, but please do not let this bombardment of negative media change your outlook on the world. The fact of the matter is that most people are good, and most people are kind. You can find a never-ending string of horrific stories in a world full of 7.5 billion people. One thing that I can guarantee, is that the string of heart warming and positive stories would be exponentially longer if every event were captured on film and broadcast for the world to see.

This does not mean that I think our society is perfect or that it does not have room for improvement. It just means that when taking all this information in, please do not let it cast a cloud of doom and gloom over your day to day life. I can say with certainty, that for most of us, our personal interactions with people in our community are nearly always positive.

Your barista will continue to smile at you when you arrive to pick up your morning coffee, your personal trainer or gym instructor will continue to be full of energy and excitement as you walk through the door for your workout and your friends and family will continue to make you wet yourself from laughter due to an embarrassing or unfortunate event that happened to one of them that day.

Keep informed, provoke positive change where you see fit and strive for the betterment of our society. Please just remember, that for all our flaws and insecurities, most of us are good people who want to make the world a better place.
